Roman Baths
Design Studio// Year 2
The brief was set to propose an extension to the usable space of the Roman Baths by using the York Street vaults, bringing York Street vaults more fully into the scope of spaces accessible by the public/ or a part of the public.
The proposed design links both levels - underground and above; it suggests protecting its original heritage which has endured thousands of years, proposing no underground development as such, but instead creating a thriving space for archaeological purposes and educational visits. Besides, the above public area includes a paddling pool that taking warm water from Roman Baths, reviving the unique characteristic of Roman Baths. Most interestingly, there are translucent holes allowing sunlight to reach underground, providing the public with a special experience.
